MUSICIANS-YOGIS IN A RICH MUSIC PRODUCTION

YOGA WITHOUT BORDERS - JULY 2015 MUSICIANS-YOGIS IN A RICH MUSIC PRODUCTION By Pablo Rego

White Sun is the name of the eponymous debut CD by this group that contains two sensitive artists and musicians who are both teachers and practitioners of Kundalini Yoga.

The development of the musical themes of this production proposes the use of mantras with an interesting array of orchestrations that mix sounds of traditional Indian music, contemporary instruments or the Celtic tradition.

This proposal is part of a genre that defines itself. There is a long tradition of record works created from the devotional songs of the Vedanta culture.

White Sun highlights the powerful and beautiful voice of Gurujas, an artist with a long history and strong background in the world of music and song, by the structure of the songs that get to use the mantras as parts that are then articulated to get "songs that contain mantras" and the orchestral and choral arrangements. Harijiwan also is a Yogi and the member of the group who brings the vibrant sound of the multichromatic gong while carrying a spiritual leadership without which this proposal would be meaningless.

It is a nice journey for the listener who discovers songs whose lyrics have meaning and have been around more than five thousand years. Mantras are structured devotional songs within a human concept that consider it shamanic sound energy in motion, so the pronunciation of those particular words in a certain order, and its cyclical repetition produces direct effects on the subtle structure of the human being, helping to harmonize and balance that dimension.

White Sun contains the brightness of creative energy in motion. That energy, bright and high, you look for in the practice of Kundalini Yoga and feel in these songs and in the overall sound. In this climate there can be heard Indian classical instruments like gongs, tablas, mridangas and harmonium on the various tracks, plus more modern keyboards, an ensemble of five string violins and three cellos and other instruments that give the final stamp of a "world music" orchestra with Celtic harp, drums, tambourines, Japanese taiko drums, mandolin and vibraphone.

As remarkable White Sun data, we can also mention the guitarist Adam Berry -- a composer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer, twice winner of the Emmy (nine nominations) as well as a BMI award. Abhiman Kaushal's presence as a guest who is considered one of the best tabla players in the world today is also highlighted.

In sum, the White Sun album is a rich, subtle work, which includes different shades to discover music with different sounds, beautiful voices and choruses, melodies that recreate ancient rituals and man's relationship with its main energy source, the sun.
